No-one else is likely to be charged over the death of an Auckland security guard after a jury found the man accused of his murder not guilty, police say.
A 27-year-old man, whose name is suppressed, was yesterday acquitted in the High Court in Auckland for the murder of Charanpreet Dhaliwal.
Dhaliwal was killed in November 2011 on the first night in a new job as a security guard for CNE Security at a site in Henderson.
He was found with "horrific injuries" to his head, and his skull had "shattered like an eggshell" after a "highly energetic assault with a weapon", a pathologist told the trial.
Police completed an "intense" investigation to find Dhaliwal's killer.
They alleged the accused, while drinking with three other men, first assaulted a bouncer then ran to the site where Dhaliwal was working and struck him repeatedly with a piece of wood.
However, the accused denied responsibility.
The defence case was that the accused was being blamed for the murder by three other men, who belonged to the same gang.
The accused was found guilty of assaulting the bouncer and was sentenced to six months' jail to be served cumulatively with a current seven-year jail sentence.
Detective Inspector Bruce Scott said today that while Dhaliwal's file remained open, police would not be doing any more inquiries at the moment.
