Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Rampart officers were involved in an OIS when a man pointed a gun at them.
On 03/16/13, around 1:52 a.m., LAPD Rampart Area officers received a
radio call of a robbery in progress at a local restaurant at the corner
of Albany Street and Pico Boulevard. The caller indicated that the
suspect was demanding money at gun point.
Upon arrival, officers saw a suspect matching the description given on
the call exit the business with a gun in his hand. The suspect pointed
the gun at the officers and an OIS occurred. Multiple officers were
involved in the shooting.
The suspect went down and was taken into custody without further
incident. A weapon was recovered at scene. The suspect was
transported to a local hospital and is in critical condition.
No officers were injured during the incident.
Los Angeles Police Department Force Investigation Division (FID)
responded to the incident and will be handling the investigation of the
officer-involved shooting.
The investigation will ultimately be reviewed by the Chief of Police,
Office of the Inspector General and The Board of Police Commissioners
for compliance with the Department’s use-of-force policy which states
that an officer’s use-of-force actions must be objectively reasonable.
Additionally, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Justice System
Integrity Division will conduct a comprehensive review of the facts of
the officer-involved shooting.
